I read the same thing about Lethem's Amnesia Moon. Although I think
Mitchell does a better job of "hiding the seams". In Amnesia Moon I felt a
kind of uneasiness - excuse my physicspeak but here I think it's
appropriate - at the protagonist's lack of "path dependence". Mitchell
dodges this by having the threads separate, and blurring characters.
