And it's certainly not the Big Bang Theory that is being satirized.

You can't shame a theory or a theorem by poking fun at its devotees, or 
for making them serve purposes for which they were never designed.

Pynchon projects a number of complex knowledge systems in a totally 
outlandish manner:

--having people travel into other mathematical dimensions

--training penises to home in on rocket hits.

--imagining fascistic covalent chemical bonds.

--war mongering musical compositions--he was far from first on this

--he hasn't done Physics  yet but wait

The intellectual appeal of this sort of thing is a big attraction of his 
novels--it's nothing personal.
