That's a great picture, and it is indeed the way
the image appears from earth. The appearance
is deceptive, however, because Venus is so
much closer to us. If Venus were actually right
on the sun's surface (besides being incinerated)
the dot would have a diameter 1/3 the length in
the image, and the area, i.e., its apparent size,
would be 1/9 that of the image in the picture.
