And, if YOU need or want cause and because, turn to Tony Tanner's The
American Mystery, pp. 236-238, and there, the great tanner of
subjunctive skins of the dying animal (Yeats...Roth), staples a circle
or Emerson to Pynchon's transition from Flux to Death.
There is the brow of America's Shakespeare (Emerson & Melville),
though Hawthorne's Pyncheons cast a shadow over the valley. Read it if
you can!
