NP - Walter Van Tillburg Clark

I bought a Signet Edition (with a magnificent Bierstadt on the cover)

the format is a bit difficult to read in my developing dotage.....

Clark covers about 1 day in the course of 220 pages....what is striking is
how he describes the scenery and sound effects..the writing is remarkable -
sort of like McCarthy without the pyrotechnics ..And it is pretty clear
that he exerted a considerable influence on Hall with respect to dialogue
and themes....
