TRP entropy and energy

Early in his life, partly from brilliant, cranky Henry Adams, it seems,
TRP discovered the power of entropy as a societal, historical metaphor.
we know where it appears, but I just want to focus on how TRP saw
the death of the West in V., America in the story of the name----but
the metaphor continued to have power for him thru GR, right? i mean
THE END, yes?

One thought I had about Inherent Vice, after all his next books, is that
TRP had consciously decided to do late what is often a young man's book, a book
without entropy, but a marijuana-hazy kind of energy....(it ends with a moving car).

Where'd entropy go?  Or,

" He was so much older then, he's younger than that now."

Discuss.
