reading/watching (The First Churchills) lots about the times of John
Churchill, England's great 17th century general. the name Sidney
Godolphin pops up alot as well as Lord Shaftesbury.
cant seem to get V. out of my mind, dammit
Pynchon's nudge showing a simple shout out to 17th century
post-Cromwell, Restoration times (liked the funny names), or sly
ironic comment on imperial britain, such heights of golden fate of the
nation (and the treasury at least for Lord Godolphin) useful servants
all, their inheritors reduced to bumbling low-level spies chasing
skirts and phantoms. oh dear. no doubt been nailed down by one too
many a scholar
