not playing along, but the morality question and the show not tell question
are taken up in Booth's famous book, in ch 13 and ch 1 respectively. the
two are, of course, connected; the author is always there, even in the most
impersonal narratives and he moral centre, while it never quite takes hold
and, even when it does, never holds, is there nevertheless.

we don't need Booth to explain what we learned in kindergarten; to tell a
good story or to construct one of ideas we show and tell.
