liner and a warship, exist and interchange themselves..............
 
Stereoptic, Iceland spar-like metaphor....i.e. both exist at once if seen thru the right light? 
 
And, talk about the question of 'the innocence of the bourgeoisie"....clearly, yes?, the author
sez that the luxuries of the bourgeoisie are also, at the same time, protected with war(ships).
