haven't read Charlotte Simmons but I do have a copy -- worth a read?

positive spin on the development in some books --
a) V. - Paola's prayers and devout carrying of the Miraculous Medal
bring about a change of heart in Pappy Hod.  Profane and others in the
book to greater or lesser degree are ennobled by the Eternal Feminine
b) GR - a simple tale of Orpheus losing and regaining his Harp
c) CoL49 - Oedipa becomes a stamp collector


minor rant: come back to the raft Huck darling -- bugs me, the notion
that the action points that way.  I don't think it does.  Not that
there's anything wrong with that...

subtonic rant: so the Obama white house is all "there's no legitimate
medical use for marijuana"
I felt strongly enough to register my dismay at whitehouse.gov

diminished rant: how old is Huck supposed to be anyway?  I got this
book out of the library called something like Mark Twain's complaint
or something, all essays ragging on him.  guess they figured with his
talent he could have brought old Huck into some kind of desirable
settlement -- not just criticizing but finding a modus vivendi (or
Vivaldi)

augmented rant: african-american jim and huck and the duke and the
dolphin and tom sawyer could have opened a medical marijuana
dispensary in a free state, luring Becky Thatcher and other
intelligent women to live with them, maybe even started a prairie
branch of the chums of chance, flying (high) towards grace paley
