El Lewderino:
Damn it, I was going to ask you about Iceland Spar. Oh, now I'm still going to. Got thrown off for a second by glancing at Jung's Internet Encyclopedia Entry. First thing I hit was his cure for alcoholism: Spirituality! AA! Oh god no! Well you can't winnemall. Dark Ages stuff. AA, twelve steps, rehab, all noble efforts, but early on in the evolution of understanding of late severe alcoholism (I could probably speak to most addictions, but I know most of this one). Of the seventeen people attached to this Pynchoniolandia, at least a couple must be serious late problem drinkers. What else do scholars do but drink vast quantities of wine am I right? Rehab is a good place to dry out, get your nerves back together, your memory working again, blood pressure down for once, come back into the world with your feet first for once. Then back at it fresh the next day. Rehab is no rehab. AA, twelve steps, well, we're not simple fearful children are we.
Want to know what will do it? Do this: get thoroughly busted. Get a non-invasive machine bracelet permattached to your anklet that reads alcohol content of your blood, and digitally records it. Weekly downloads into the state system (the State, by the bye, I now understand, is a conscious system, it just is not Quite aware of that fact, yet) with a threat of serious real jail time if you get a positive result. It works. Even the Most Clever and Rational barbarous Dionysian demon running amok in your higher consciousness will concede for the first time Ever that it is in its and your best interest to Not f**k with the system during the duration of the anklet--because it cannot be beat. And then while experiencing real sobriety for the first time in your life, which will at last occur around the sixth month, not necessary by anymeans, but I might recommend--to highly qualified individuals only, fearless, inquisitive, research-oriented overmen, and I can't stress that enough--explore the psilocybe. Et voila. Rebirth. An evolution in severe addiction understanding and treatment. You may still have to do some serious jailtime Anyway, for the original offense, but ***k it...
But I digressed. I wanted to ask if there is something specific you are talking about when you say Iceland Spar, or you just mean everything in the section of Iceland Spar. Because I was very interested in the first part that took place in Iceland and the Arctic thereabouts, but the Labor struggles in Colorado are not too thrilling, mildly interesting, which is where I'm stuck. Webb, Kate's fatehr, was just killed. I'd love it if focused on the anarchists rather than the ever-tedious unions....
Sad day. I've never specifically read Jung, until that bit on AA fifteen minutes ago. The worst! Yet I like his other ideas--at least what I have been running with them. I'm even now interested in Synchronicity, though I'm not sure we mean the same--

Back when Jung was intellectually hot and I was young, a main concept
of his which made the rounds superficially, and still does today---just saw it
online again and after Ian's great email on Jung it finally registered with AtD.

One other resonance of Iceland Spar might be 'synchronicity' in Jung's sense, yes?
