The Foreign Language of Mad Men

Even the article in Atlantic isn't fresh:
http://www.slate.com/blogs/browbeat/2012/02/10/mad_men_vs_downton_abbey_which_show_is_more_careful_about_language_.html
.
That said, the show(s) in question are art/models, and as such can not ever
map 1:1 to the universe that they represent. The dialogue is no more (or
less) artificial, however, than the dialogue in "reality" tv shows, which
are actually artificial and highly scripted, or political speeches, whether
intelligent, complicated, and teleprompted, or simply a string of ignorant,
simple, well-rehearsed hateful lies.
