just yesterday I got to the story of John Dewey in Louis Menand's
wonderful book, _The Metaphysical Club_ (sounds like a sandwich...not
that there's anything wrong with that)

My friend a long time ago wrote a song called "Hang down your head
John Dewey" but in reality it seems like he has a lot to be thanked
for.

sort of an American Bertrand Russell, at least in terms of being
famous for being a philosopher and staying active into his 90s

trying to think of anybody today famous for that...
