The Metaphysical Club was just an excellent book - one of the best books I read in whatever year I read it. A friend was disappointed because it's not a philosophy book - it's not supposed to be that. It's a history book about the idea of Pragmatism as developed by Charles Pierce, William James, Oliver Wendall Holmes and John Dewey. Louis Menand writes beautifully - I really do recommend this book if you're at all interested in the subject.
