Speaking of "the eternal life of authorship", there is this tidbit in 
Against The Day if you don't remember it: 
"as Hamlet is always saying"........reminding us of TRP using this phrasing
in his review of Love in the Time of Cholera....."as Ian & Sylvia are always 
saying"..............
 
Notice TRP gives the extant words/works an eternal presence........but,
as Michael reminds,makes fine fun of self-obsessed academics...........
