Nor yes. I can't but I will. I was in such a mad rush the other day I was never on about something I'd intended full-sail, expediting now the far end of the Expedition, sectional, a light-wind at about our sails, I want to correct or embark, embark by way of noting, an airy refutation, a sideways recitation of the portional (sportional) climax of the trans-Natural, speaking of that perennial bad shit, the serpentines, the sashaying carbon-eyes and scales of pearl, flaking mendacity, who would alight such a question, pomp withal, like Nietzsche choking out his Alpine cabin window, "Bad air! Bad air!" when the pure spirits become all...slithery, this is when I've chosen to pause my research. To sort out what's madness and what is actual, and what may lie between, when the violet sun rises beyond the coming Equinox...
The Old Man is on about how they've been crossing over for a long time, friends of friends of friends knew them, and how they are again, recurring into a theme of the Norsemen, but that "Compared to these other Trespassers...they are the soul of civility." Again, p.134.
Wait, now I think I read that wrong when I breezed it the other night. Where did my coffee..? My point being, what I mean is that this is why certain ascendant gryllos shall be giving a rest, to regain some light air in the sails, when you start noticing these creatures right out in the open, appearing distinctly more reptilian than the breezy light spirits of Origin:
And you see! Now he's disappeared on me. A photo in the NYTimes, a week or so ago, business section, of one of the members of the Samsung family....anybody...anybody...everybody...again and again...

True enough but my point was sparringly aslant...

It was that perhaps part of the meaning of Iceland Spar in AtD was as an aesthetic metaphor
a meta-art metaphor............

Lotsa stuff in this rich novel about Art.....

Goes to show how versatile a literary metaphor birefringence is. The concept of light being refracted along two axes, the ordinary and the extraordinary; it doesn't take much to see that one could safely hang any conceit on that (within reason) one would like.

Just miscellaneously learned (or relearned)...I may even have posted this already
but since this thread is entitled Again St at Recur Blvd....

There was this lit crit/cultural crit guy in the McLuhan tradition named Walter J. Ong...
whom I think I once learned mid-life Saul Bellow was even reading anway, in a
nice bit on some Shakespeare metaphors he spoke of the incredible, when right,
"double focus" of a metaphor which led me to think, single-mindedly that

Iceland Spar itself may (also) be a metaphor for metaphor......

It recurred to me to picked up Against again a night or so ago, and I was on a whopping 250, if you can believe my sometimes sneaky, dubious bookmark. Like I remember. I scanned forward some pages, nothing, so I scanned back some pages, okay I might recall some of that bit, what, what if, what Part is this? So I went back to the beginning of Iceland Spar and okay I remember this bit because I thought it funny Pynchon mentioning the mushrooms before the Ship of Fools navigate into the center of the earth, much as one does the black hole at the center of the brain, and there's this portion about the, going back a few pages, naturally, say, here, 114, changing part of the original aragonite of pearls, secret, hidden signals, fungus harvesting at the edge of the planet's interior...

And it carries on about "that mysterious mathematical lattice-work" [all such references to mycelium]..."pioneers arriving in airships"..."clandestine transmitters" [mushies] ..."scouts of Earth's Field" [] ..."polarized light" [easy one]... and then to the whole p.131-134 section, announced topic being "The Nature of Expiditions," and this is a whole discussion about the experience of the Cybe. He even chucks in some eternal return I see, and this would have been right after I was describing to you how one fully experiences the return with the Cybe, but can go outside the eternal recurrence into other timeless dimensions, then return back into this dimension, which recurs eternally in time, again and again, which I was thrilled to not a few days ago, reading Michael Cremo's Impact that the, dang I don't have the book with me I'd quote it, cosmology of Gaudiya Vaishnaya resembles, recurrence within certain cycles of time with other outer
dimensions probing about, loitering at the corner of Again and Recur.

Iceland Spar, not the part title, but the doubly-refracting calcite, what's that if not psilocybin?

Anyway, the whole reason for my writing this, is is that what the rest of this 300 page Part is about, if not what's it about, what happens as it turns out, because I may be doomed to read a hundred more again, forget, then come back to that which I remember again...
