Tradition. According to the wiki, this structure exists.

TRP uses maybe for these (among other) reasons. 1) name has never been changed. Back to 3rd Century.
2) Nature has created such wonders (and others) as the above   3) incredible variety--range--of flora, fauna and
biological species.
 
Tradition. That if two walk under the Ring, they will be in love forever is
a tradition/communal-bound folk belief that institutionalizes the 
hope (and reinforcement) of lifelong love. I will assume
this exists there too?
 
A Ring. Just like a wedding symbol from all over.
Archetypal --as well as Gravesian or Frazerian?
 
So Cyprian walks under it with Yashmeen and Reef---
not needing the "confusion" of walking under it singly
and changing his sex.......
 
Singly here is bad shit? Major identity loss?
Certainly compared to lifelong love, it would seem.
