hello good people,

september has re-arrived, i'm back in school teaching, which is good, but summer
is over, which i'm thinking is not so good.

alas! i'm carrying on with, you guessed it, more music. i was late to post a
lovely concert i played in last night at SFMOMA, performing a score by john
cage, with drawings by none other than henry thoreau ... it was good fun!

this month there are lots of things to choose from - especially this weekend -
lots of you have asked me about my "rock band", and when are we playing and
what is that music like??? - well, you can find out for yourself on saturday at
the starry plough in berkeley - we are preparing to record some music i wrote
for my cat, who is no longer with us, and the music is every bit as irreverent
and risky as its namesake.

my dear friend shaun naidoo passed away a few months ago and the amazing
pianist vicky ray has organized a memorial concert through chapman university,
where naidoo was professor of composition. i will be taking part in a series of
performances of shaun naidoo's work, and will be playing GHOST CHART, a piece
he wrote for me in 2003. i'll be heading down there next week - come down if
you're in socal and check out this event, which is sure to feature an amazing
collection of works.

later this month, i'm so pleased to finally get a chance to work with john
bischoff and karen stackpole - two outstanding musicians i admire greatly and
have never had the chance to perform with ... come hear us at berkeley arts in
the middle of the month!

so much going on! i hope you are all enjoying it and thriving - come out and
hear some live music this month - it will make life even better!

oh yeah, if you got on here by mistake (which happens a lot, my computer just
adds people i email with to my list), or you just plain don't want to receive
these, type REMOVE in the subject line and hit reply.

much love!

please join us for a set of electro-acoustic improvisation performed by an
outstanding collection of celebrated veteran improvisers - the trio will create
spontaneous forms and populate them with reductionist, microscopic detail and
expressive clamors of unbridled emotion. expect delicious soundscapes from the
EAI tradition, but there's nothing traditional about the ways this trio
establishes form and grace in sound gestures, overtone fireworks, and melodious
noise.

9 pm Amat Sings Brody

laurie amat - voice
joshua raoul brody - piano, keyboards, accordion, etc.

Bay Area treasure Laurie Amat has collaborated with composer and accompanist
Joshua Raoul Brody for over a quarter of a century on projects ranging from
Tony Pellegrino's ground-breaking music theater piece Deer Rose to Brody's
godawful cover band Theee STUPEDS. Now she devotes an entire evening to
compositions by Brody (and lyricists including his long-time associate Merle
Kessler), accompanied by the composer himself. Selections from several Kessler
& Brody "one-man shows it takes two guys and a six-pack of beer" will abound,
along with smatterings from other shows as well as an amazing recreation of the
mini-opera Goddess of the Hunt.
