> PS: I STILL think P is the only living American author worth studying in college!

College, as Frank Zappa sez, is where one goes to get laid, but you
can still, as Zappa and the kid in Good Will Hunting suggested, get a
great education at the free public library if you know what to read.

Richard Yates is still alive. So is John Barth. Philip Roth. Don
DeLillo. Doctorow. McCarthy. Morrison, JC Oates, O'Brien, Reed, TC
Boyle.

And one reason to read these others, and as I am now reading Chabon,
I'll toss him there, is to see what living writers do much better than
Pynchon, how they approach common material, how they differ from him
and so forth.

I also like Whitehead. And a host of other young talents.

I have no sheep skins but I can teach math and finance, maybe a little
poetry, painting, philosophy in a pinch, and I can frame a house, and
I can talk like Yoda. I would love to learn accupuncture and back
cracking but I'm too pinned down and bent over to find the time.

Don't know if this counts, but I can also fly a plane and because my
husband is a famous geologists, I know a lot about rocks and sand and
oh yeah, I'm a great surfer, or I wuz once.

Had more jobs than Zoyd and more trouble than Frenesi. Well, as Frank
sez, that's life.
