Another crazy, laughed-at question out of Pynchon.

Is this one economic, therefore social meaning to "History is a Step-Function?"
 
Some economic historians:
"The team’s findings associate GDP closely with population until c.1700, when industrial, agricultural, and technological developments began to liberate GDP from population."
 
Another self-justifying question: are these loopy associations sorta like a layman's Pynchonite? Or simply another fool who can't stick to the text?
