Perhaps this good review lacks only some words for the beauty of the prose....
DeepArcher is also, imho, another verbal homage to Lew Archer, as well.........

whatever happened to the preterite? sounds like more of the same wise-cracking, privileged whining and lame jokes, tired trope about loss of unmapped space for young children to lose themselves in from another depressed hippie. hardly enthralling stuff

The novel might be a stinker, but this reviewer seems to have a solid grasp on its message. The stinker aspect might be use of short-hand symbols to convey these messages rather than deeper explorations of the novel's concerns. Pynchon sometimes can forget to develop a story, using symbols instead.
