O-or wait, th' football game is supposed to symbolize the governance of
Germany, and the teams are good vs evil, so he was rooting for the good but
had to sit on the evil side of the stadium

Because his friends' tickets were there - the same friends who wouldn't
trip with him, or they too would have wanted to stay home and wig out -
i.e. remain at peace...
