A notable absence. I've broadcast my disappoint with BE, but I still think it 
belongs on any list of notable books for 2013. It's Pynchon, for (whatever's) 
sake, and ought to be read and discussed, at the very least. Not clear if 
everyone over at NPR read and disliked it, or if they didn't bother. Pynchon's 
least good book (in my apparently minority opinion, anyway)still merits at least 
an honorable mention on any best of 2013 list.
