jeez beez Louise, that was to my sister! Please pardon the off
topicness and the irrelevance!

I still might convert to Romish, can't rule that out, all those
saints and good incense &c... it seems like their sex roles (there was
a UG cartoon about "sex rolls" different kinds of pastry on the back
of maybe a Cherry Poptart comic book one time)(in band camp) may not
be more Procrustean than other factions one might name ...

anyway, that wuz back in the summer of '82, a rather pernicious year
in my personal annals with precious few of those moments that make it
all worthwhile to record (& to experience, obviously), went on a
family outing to get ice cream, didn't really want ice cream but
wanted to be sociable, a-and there was this nice pen, I was like 27,
old enough to not quite be obviously wanting to be somewhere else with
other people (it was dawning on me that these people were kinda
precious in their own right) but still wishing we all presented a
rather hipper picture to the imaginary onlooker-of-surpassing-coolness
who like one of Castaneda's Naguals or something was always hovering
just outside of one's peripheral vision ever since turning 12 or 13...

so it was with a heartache regarding not being sufficiently jovial in
retrospect and remembering a pen lying on the sidewalk more vividly
these many years later than anything else that happened on a nice
family outing...not about not picking up the pen...(I've got plenty of
pens!) that I remembered that item.
