I agree with Oates for this reason: If your work is "apolitical", then it supports the status quo.
Therefore is conservative, even reactionary. #Oristhisafalsebinary?

Personal defined as "what is me/mine or perceived to be me/mine", as opposed to "what is other than me/mine". So, politics is all personal. Ergo, I agree with Laura's agreement with Joyce.
