Misc., for example. On 'disappearing' in life.

The liquor store I go to when I'm in this neighborhood has always been
there, down six blocks, around behind the edge of the stretch mall. A
number of years ago what you might call a corporate booze giant moved into
a vacated A&P grocery store, remodeled, made it sexy. Called MDL. Funny
shittin acronym when you're in the moon. Mood. I've been 86ed from there,
for utilizing their splendid facilities to down a bottle of hyper-sugarized
tequila before my walk home. I was fully intending to pay, I just wanted
to drink it first. Manager didn't have me pay, he just made me never come
back. That place is about a hundred yards closer to my Central City pad
that the old one, so it was useful in the hardest times. So fuck it I
cross the big street and go the hundred extra yards to the old haunt. Guy
who runs it, I've walked in there with my pants around my ankles, I've
pounded vodka in his much-less-nice bathroom, he's helped me choose mescal,
he doesn't care. Sometimes he's had his kid hanging out with him at work,
like I used to my parents growing up. Simple old school living.

Anyway today I was sober so I drove up and went in and wanted some Mickey's
and said so, and the brother said "Ah, it's our last day, we're not
restocking."
"What? Last day?"
"The guy across the street bought the place."
"That fucking cocksucker, what the fuck?"
"Right?"
"Shit man, you gonna be alright?"
"I sensed something was happening, I've put the word out. I'll be fine."

Maybe, right? Man, how to you fight back from being laid off from a liquor
store?
