although I am not a regular drinker beyond a tot of brandy in my
coffee every so often or the like, I sympathize.  There was this
really cool little ABC Liquor store back in the 70s and 80s - ABC is a
chain here in Florida and maybe elsewhere - anyway, it was a little
house, actually, and quite cool-looking, like Geli Tripping's cabin in
Gravity's Rainbow, maybe...

sometime in the 80s they knocked it down and built a soulless outlet
with big glass windows in front, but I guess all the customers felt
the same way I did and stopped shopping there, and eventually closed
that outlet and built another one a few blocks away, no prettier but
at least it wasn't a continual reminder of the insensitivity of the
corporate judgement in that case...

I never shopped at any of the incarnations, so my pain was minimal.

Possible Moral: life is easier if you don't drink a whole lot

other possible moral - there were a lot of really cool places back a
few years ago that are gone or changed...got to keep finding new cool
places.
Oh well, it's something to do, as my friend Mike used to say.
