Happy John Frum Day!

There's a doco series I saw recently, Meet the Natives: USA which follows a
group of Vanuatuan tribesmen -- all of whom but the translator and
narrator follow a "traditional" lifestyle -- as they live amongst american
tribes: middle americans, wasps and the various pop sociological
categories, all the while in search of "Tom Navy", an american sailor who
helped various tribes end a protracted war. He seems to share certain
qualites with Frum, but is revered rather than worshipped.
Very heavy on the kitsch, but interesting in a despite itself kind of way.
