"The police station is the nerve-centre of Hyde Park. I passed through its
portals and called on Sub-Divisional Inspector L.H. Cooper, whose
historical knowledge of London's most popular Royal park makes him
delightful company. He lives in a flat above the station and works in a
narrow office on the walls of which are three large maps of Hyde Park. On
one of these maps is shown, by coloured pennants, the exact spot on which
every bomb fell during the air raids. There are red, pink, green, yellow
and black pennants, according to the nature of the bomb - whether it was a
high explosive, a delayed action, or an oil bomb, whether it went off or
whether it did not. The map is so covered with pennants of every colour
that it seems impossible that there should be anything left. Inspector
Cooper tried to count the incendiaries, but after reaching the number of
2,844 he gave it up and is now somewhat ashamed of this lack of tenacity"
