Let It Bleed

Yea, yea, don't give me any of that rock n' roll crap, what about the
insignia? You know they love that shit almost as much as pushing the
button on people 10,000 miles away from the safety of their bunker.
They love the rank and respect. Oh they pretend to be all humble and
business-like, patriotic rubbish and such, but deep down they crave the
status and respect due to the coolest of the bleeding edge. They want
to wear a symbol on their lapel- something understated yet distinctive-
whatever passes for "bespoke" in military circles. Their just playing
video games for Christ sake. They need something to keep the heebie
jeebies at bay- the bad dreams, the sickening thoughts about maimed and
mutilated children without ever risking their own necks, even the guilt
about the special forces on the ground you alluded to, passing on the
coordinates, sometimes not coming back.

Speaking of which- I will not see "Zero Dark Thirty." I can't imagine a
more stultifying experience. Well maybe, screening "The Dark Knight
Rises" in Aurora, Co. There's probably a connection there somewhere, a
long and tenuous one, something like blow back- like all the Afghani
heroin seeping into the streets but less defined and proscribable, more
insidious, but just as lethal for the collective psyche of America.
