Jerry Garcia seemed to think well enough of their music to play with them on several occasions. Check out the album called Los Super Seven (David and Cesar from LL playing with Freddie Fender, Flaco Jimenez and more).
Of course if you find nothing "exceptional"... well that's a matter of taste which classifies the classifier even as it classifies the object to be classified.

Uncle used to tour with them, did all sorts of things, gave me a CD of theirs a while back. I need to check 'em out, man..
