Did we all know that that GR allusion, ole Malcolm X marks the spot,
gave a speech in 1964 that the editors where I found it, THE NEW LEFT READER
called underappreciated [1968] and entitled with the last line above.
This talk was given at The Audubon Ballroom .
Malcolm talks long and detailed about colonialism and its exploitation of Africa
and other places, sharply bringing Asia in and some black on black exploiters' ending
with a riff on such blacks, Uncle Toms, just like so many non-blacks who want
"that good image. And nobody who is ever looking for a good image will ever be free.
No, that kind of image doesn't get you free. You've got to take something in your
hand and say, "Look, it's you or me" and I guarantee you he'll give you freedom then.
He'll say, "This man is ready for it." I said something in your hand----I won't define
what I mean by "something in your hand" I don't mean bananas."
