Nagisa Oshima, requiescat in pace ...

oh man, that's too bad. oshima is one of my very favorite directors - a real 
renegade. EMPIRE OF PASSION, BOY, VIOLENCE AT NOON, PLEASURES OF THE FLESH, 
JAPANESE SUMMER - DOUBLE SUICIDE, and, i can hardly type it without blushing, IN 
THE REALM OF THE SENSES - all wholly delightful and disturbing all at once. i've 
never seen MERRY CHRISTMAS, MR LAWRENCE, the film he did with bowie that got 
more mainstream attention in the states. i am pretty sure it's on netflix - i 
might have to celebrate the man's life by watching it tonight.
