b) their activities in wwii that are most recounted are not fighting
-- TS was philandering and so forth, RN was famous for playing poker

c) both were recruited for oddball destinies almost willy-nilly - TS
in the cradle by Jamf, Richard Nixon lured into politics by an ad
placed in the paper

d) both were offshoots of a grand religious family although one would
hardly guess at such affiliation, gazing on them -- RN was a Quaker
with their pacifist tradition yet continued to escalate the
Vietnam/Laos/Cambodia genocide to almost unbelievable levels, TS a
scion of Puritans - a sect sober, organized, planning to a t,
believing God was watching every second ----- yet he becomes instead
of a Puritan, a paranoid, leading a disorganized existence and
surviving by flashes of inspiration
