ok, i know you mean in terms of quality, but i wouldn't mind being 2nd
rate at their level...

and yes, i am the dude who says their high-water mark, their GR
(although in my book it'd be their Vineland - or perhaps their M&D or
AtD, not sure yet) if you will, was Ummagumma -- although...

run like hell, off of the wall? sez wikipedia? (1979)? darn, i could
utterly swear some dude had that on his eight-track when he picked us
up hitchhiking to Cass Lake in 1970 -- is there anything on Meddle
that sounds like that?

it was one of the great "gratuitous grace in the Aldous Huxley sense
music while hitchhiking" songs of my adolescence, gosh i miss
hitchhiking (but not quite enough to start again) -- others were "give
the fiddler a dram" and Nilsson's "Jump into the Fire"

you're out there with your thumb out, and some young person with hip
accoutrements pulls over and they turn up the radio once you tell them
where you're going...man oh man...a-and of course they don't mind if
you smoke...
