Maybe you missed the post by another P-Lister who pointed out that  "little
man" is a playful allusion to Reich's _The Mass Psychology of Fascism_?

"Typical mental attitudes attacked and ridiculed by Menippean satires are
'pedants, bigots, cranks, parvenus, virtuosi, enthusiasts, rapacious and
incompetent professional men of all kinds ',  which are treated a diseases
of the intellect."

And the men of science are attacked and ridiculed in Pynchon novels. As you
pointed out, Tesla is subjected to P's satire, as are those who would make
of him a cult hero.
