This guy quotes a part of Eisenhower's military-industrial complex warning that says when joined with the " scientific-technological elite" can be Bad Shit. 
The science-favoring faction and the literary-humanist faction [ please, I know and you know that that binary is not necessarily true, but just for use here] are probably united in pointing to the power manipulations of those " elites" , not to any dissing of any skills.
