I used to be enthralled with making all the connections Pynchon was making,
learning about the economies, the histories, the perversities, etc. but
after awhile it was the sheer beauty of his sentences and language. that's
why i didnt really like Vineland. he retunred to form in M&D which had both
the former and alot of the latter. there was old man melancholy but the two
characters personalities played to both his strengths. who hasnt a bit of
themselves in both mason and dixon; i sure did. against the day had too
much of the former and hardly any of the latter, all that running around
seemed pointless. and i dont care for the romantic nature of his views of
revolutionary anarchism; IV was bland tripe, null on former and latter. but
who cares since in future; folks'll remember don draper or tony soprano
(god bless his smutty soul)
