I have confirmed from someone who helped send out review copies at Penguin that
the black cover that we saw on ebay is the real review copy, proofs, not an ARC and semi-glossy as many are.

I asked what else she could tell me. The page of TRPs earlier works begins with Slow Learner and is
then in chronological order of publication (and of course the stories are first chronologically.)

Page after title page says Copyright (c) Thomas Pynchon, 2013

Title page has a small picture above the title: like a sci-fi, sides-tilted pic of NYC with the Flatiron building knifing/centering the pic and dominating it. (I used
to work in The Flatiron building.)

She read me the epigraph: "New York as a character in a mystery would not be the detective, would not be the murderer. It would be the enigmatic
suspect who knows the real story but is not going to tell it."----Donald E. Westlake

the murderer. It would be the enigmatic suspect who knows the real story but isn't going to tell it.
