My last astral dalliance was, jeepers, seventeen years ago? Didn't
quite know what I was letting myself in for, hence it being my last. I
likened it to "stepping into space without a suit"-- a very
unwholesome experience, as overdoses tend to be. Took years to recover
from. Heaven knows how the Tru Heads gobble heroic quantities of dope.
I don't see P. in their company, personally. His prose suggests too
much self-discipline. He explored, he dabbled, sure, but I can't
conceive of the man ever having gone fullblown gonzo.
