Why didn't ch'all tell me about THIS book:
http://www.amazon.com/Charisma-Gift-Grace-Been-Taken/dp/0307277534/ref=la_B001IXO3NS_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1367852887&sr=1-4
which I found pursuing that Weber notation.....posthumously published by this intellectually-famous-in-Pynchon's-time thinker known best
now, maybe as Mr. Susan Sontag, once upon a time....
his Triumph of the Therapeutic was very important when I was younger [I was told] and usually stupider and I couldn't get it..(I did try) and he had a
decent bio of Freud w a cultural slant: moralist (in effect) because he changed the way we had to judge our own actions therefore our own
moral "control' of such actions, of the free
but in this---just check it out in Google Books under "Weber + grace" and you will see him say that the meaning of Grace, since only God
(even just as concept) could be self-willed, could no longer be linked with our willed actions as Puritans linked it so it came to mean......UNEARNED, something gratutious felt in the cosmic scheme of things.........
He either implies that or I project Pynchon's sea-changed redefinition of 'grace' imho.
Anyway, another book I must read...
