Bob Slocum  ---protagonist of Something Happened.   ("I saw him as Bob", Heller said to his editor, Bob Gottleib
                                                        "but I didn't want to offend you" after Gottleib told him that "Bill Slocum" was
                                                          a Bob. 
 
not suggesting any connection but both writers chose their characters' names for thematic effect, Heller much 
more simplistically, more Catskills-circuit-like, usually,  than Pynchon.
