and, while coincidentally little less than a coincidence, one that is
equally discovered in Nabokov, there is, in the detective story that
brought the book to the public, the merging of the author and the hero by a
reader who abridged and augmented, mindlessly, and with a certain
pleasure...and so on.

Introduction by Peter Miles is fascination enough.

His back blurb, how the unenlightened workforce, who give away their rights
and aspirations to a decent life so freely, ironically, a philanthropy,
seems quite in the strain of Mr. Pynchon's major theme.   Well, one of them
anyway.
