IV Random thoughts

Yes Al ive sort of been threatened at times, though i think that other
experiences have been more formative...but the role of doc in
contradistinction to the various *other* purveyors of mayhem in the book,
and by extension in the socius it purports to describe - and submits for
our consideration as Rod Serling used to say - places him in the category
of relatively gentle enforcers of contracts, one morph away from
self-appointed guardian of the public weal...which as the main character
development in IV I found pretty fascinating ... and indeed he does
eventually breach an epidermis and actually depress the plunger, doesn't he?
...although the vast majority of his interactions are friendly and plenty
verbal throughout.

Like in the rolling stones song jigsaw puzzle, when it comes to the nitty
gritty he can shove in his knife...and it's interesting that his internal
monologue at that point consists of cartoon characters and the notion that
being a righteous badass and defending the lady are pretty much what it's
all about

Is that what he feels gives him the right, o-or maybe the need, to
administer the flat of his hand to Shasta's derrière?

Whereas in Vineland, as Frenesi sez, it's all about sticking it in.
