"Former U.S. intelligence contractor Edward Snowden would consider
testifying in Germany <http://topics.bloomberg.com/germany/> about the
National Security Agency’s mass surveillance, according to a Green Party
lawmaker who met with him yesterday in Moscow.
Hans-Christian Stroebele, who said Snowden gave him a letter addressed
to the German government, told broadcaster ARD
<http://www.tagesschau.de/ausland/snowden268.html> that the U.S.
fugitive would be willing “in principle” to testify. He cited the
“complex” Russian asylum status that doesn’t allow Snowden to leave the
country.
German Green Party lawmaker Hans-Christian Stroebele met Edward Snowden
in Moscow yesterday to discuss the possibility of the U.S. fugitive
testifying in Germany as new revelations of spying by the National
Security Agency strained relations between the two countries.
“The conditions for that have to be worked out,” Stroebele, 74, a member
of Germany’s lower house, told ARD. “We discussed this back and forth
for a long time.” Stroebele posted photos with Snowden on his website
<http://www.stroebele-online.de/show/7203490.html> and plans to hold a
press conference at 12:30 p.m. in Berlin today."
