Oedipa Maas and Godard's Vivre Sa Vie

Hey all-

In Jean-Luc Godard's 1962 film *Vivre Sa Vie*, there is a tableau (#3) in
which the protagonist Nana watches *The Passion of Joan of Arc* and cries
as Joan is being prepared for death. As I understand it, Nana is to be seen
as a martyr, and her turn to prostitution is to be read as an act of
martyrdom. Could it be that TRP used this scene as an inspiration for
Oedipa crying at Remedios Varos' “Bordando el Manto Terrestre"? While the
occupational contexts are different (prostitute vs. executrix) both
instances are concerned with foreshadowing the protagonist's sense of self.

Curious to hear everyone's thoughts regarding this.
