David Letterman...

[Michael Bailey]

...had Yma Sumac (RIP) on his show and chortled when announcing her
appearance ("...and Yma Sumac...I'm like a kid in a candy shop!") but gave
her a nice, classy interview and treated her respectfully.

Reminds me of what one might expect of Pynchon, king of conspiracy, deacon
of paranoia, in a NYC 2001 novel...and what actually issued forth.
