as performing a "pick' to screen her two boys against a potential car careening onto
the sidewalk.

They are walking east, and the east-facing windows are reflecting on the buildings...one might get too obsessive and
find this a metaphor for what happens to light in Manhattan when it can't illumine a tree on Riverside which is open to a park
and the Hudson.....
 
And all is reflection in the maw of the city, full of giant insect-like busses and "ambush by rolling aluminum" even, maybe
reminding me too easily (therefore inaccurately) of the rolling stock in the opening pages of GR....
 
P does not use the word 'the homeless' but 'unsheltered people" .....riff please......but does use the word ''scavenger"....which
has more positive connotations historically than, maybe today in these United States.....used like beadle was in England. From 1911
