"Maxine finishes up the dishes and puts her head in the boys' room,
where she finds them with Fiona intensely attending to a screen on
which is unfolding a first-person shooter, in a cityscape that looks
like New York and with a generous range of weaponry." (BE, Ch. 4, p.
33)
first-person shooter
First-person shooter (FPS) is a video game genre centered on gun and
projectile weapon-based combat through a first-person perspective;
that is, the player experiences the action through the eyes of the
protagonist.

... vs. (as in Lot 49, IV + BE) ...
The third-person subjective is when the narrator conveys the thoughts,
feelings, opinions, etc. of one or more characters. If it is just one
character, it can be termed third-person limited, in which the reader
is "limited" to the thoughts of some particular character (often the
protagonist) as in the first-person mode, except still giving personal
descriptions using "he", "she", "it", and "they", but not "I".
