Just guessing:

Beige is the color of an US Army uniform? Maybe Slothrup.

If she's looking for a spook rescuer, she works for Them. THEM. She is
THEIR'S. "Spook" is a spy, or maybe a ghost.

But this is from Slothrup's POV. She has moved on, away from his help,
help she maybe thought was Their spook. But she decided to move on from
him as spook.
